The social network Instagram, which turns ten years old today, has experienced one of the most explosive growth in this sector and has been positioned in Spain as the fourth most usedwith nearly 16 million users.
Launched on October 6, 2010 by its creators, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, the network registered an increase in Spain of almost 7 percent in 2019 and is approaching (in Spain, in other countries it has already surpassed them) the figures from YouTube, WhatsApp or Facebook.
Network now has more than 1,000 million users around the worldthe network management platform Hootsuite recalled today on the occasion of that anniversary.
Among the milestones that have marked the history of Instagram, this platform has highlighted its purchase – just one year after its launch – on Facebook.
The data reveal that among its 1 billion users there are more women than men (50.9 percent compared to 49.1 percent); that the people who use it the most are those between the ages of 25 and 34, and that there are many older people who use this network on a daily basis, although among those over 65 there are more men than women.
In Spain the number of users of this network is around 16 million, and there are also more women (54.6 percent compared to 45.4 percent of men).
The “Digital 2020” report prepared each year by Hootsuite and the agency We Are Social -specialized in this type of media- includes the main digital and network trends, although it has not yet reflected the significant increase in social network consumption during the crisis. and the months of confinement, in which their use skyrocketed and they became one of the main entry vehicles for information and entertainment.
The “Digital 2020” report reveals that about 29 million Spaniards (62 percent of the population) use the networks daily and spend about six hours on the internet – two of them on social networks; that there are more mobile subscriptions than people in Spain; and they mainly consume videos and music.
The most used is YouTube (by 89 percent of network users), followed by WhatsApp (86 percent), Facebook (79 percent), Instagram (65 percent) and Twitter (53 percent).
